September Goal Recap

I just realized that I never posted how I ended up on my September goal of only eating out twice. The last week of September I decided to meet some friends for a playdate at Chick-fil-A, so the final tally for September eating out was 2 times!

At the beginning of the month I was overwhelmed thinking about how much cooking I would need to do during the month, but it really didn't end up being so bad. I realized that it takes much more planning on my part, like making sure I have food and snacks when we are out and about to keep up from having to stop because someone is starving!

I'd guess that by only eating out twice, we saved a couple hundred dollars! Those quick stops for food really add up when you are spending $20 here and there.

I'm taking October off from having any financially related goals and will be back at it in November.

Update on my September Goal...

If you've been reading my blog then you know that my challenge for September for my family was to eat out 2 times or less the whole month - yikes that is a lot of cooking for me! Well I'm happy to report that through today, we've eaten out one time - WOO HOO! I think I can make it another week with only eating out one more time.

I have to say that I really enjoy going out to eat since there is no cooking or cleaning required on my part, but I hate how much it costs us! If I can only stick with this plan and keep my family from eating out, our waistlines should get smaller and our wallets will get fatter!

Update on my September goal...

Remember when I posted that my goal for September was to eat out 2 times or less THE ENTIRE MONTH?

Well, I'm happy to report that one week into this month, we've eaten out ZERO times! I was initially overwhelmed at having to cook so much food at home, but so far so good - let's just hope I can keep it up for the next 3 weeks!

My September Goal...

I think a new month brings new opportunities and I am challenging my family once again. We tend to eat out much more than we should because we are out and about and need to pick up some food or I have failed to plan well and we just need to eat. This causes us to spend more money than we need to and also causes us to eat less healthily.

This month I am challenging my family to only eat 2 meals out the entire month. I have a prior engagement for tea that I am not including and my husband has a weekly breakfast with friends that I am not including in this challenge.

That means I will be making at least 87 meals at home this month, in order to reach my goal - and that number doesn't even include snacks! That number is a little daunting to me, so I am just going to take it one day at a time and try to stick to my meal plan better. You see, I meal plan every week and I'd say we stick to it about 75% of the time. In order to reach my goal, we'll have to be so much better at sticking to this meal plan.

I'll update you throughout the month on my progress, so keep your fingers crossed!

I challenge you to set a goal for yourself for September - make it anything you are hoping to achieve and keep track of it. If you are brave enough, feel free to share your goal with us. Happy September!!

Recap of my May goal...

I have to admit I failed on my May goal. I ended up going over my goal of spending $275 on everything besides bills that are already set in stone. I spent $60 on presents for teachers and family that I really wasn't thinking about when I set my goal. I also had to fill up each of the cars with gas twice, which isn't normal for us - we usually only go through one tank per car a month.

I also headed out to Old Navy for their 50% additional off clearance items, which is always bad news on the budget for me, but I got some great deals - like short sleeved polos for my son for less than $2 each and licensed Broncos t-shirts for my husband for only $3 - he was super excited!

Needless to say, I went over budget this month but will set more goals for our family in the near future.

Do you have any goals for June? They can be money related or not! Good luck and you get to start fresh with a new month!

Update on my goal for the month...

Since it is more than halfway through the month I figured I should post my progress of only spending $275 on everything besides regularly scheduled bills. Since the beginning of the month, I have spent $12 on the awesome Entertainment book deal, $47.34 on a ton of fresh produce and chicken at Sprouts, $3.48 at Walgreens and $7 at King Soopers. Total spent so far this month $69.82.

I am doing well with my spending but it time to fill up the gas tank and make a trip to Costco to get some things for a picnic lunch at my sons school, so I should be spending a chunk of money this week. Hopefully it isn't too much to throw me off of my goal.
