Do you shop online?

Do you know about the cash back sites that are available when you shop online?

There are several sites that are super easy to use and offer cash back when you purchase from any of the affiliated stores through them online. My favorite is Cashbaq.

When you are ready to make any purchase online, simply sign up for a Cashbaq account here first and receive a $5 credit just for signing up! Then search on their site for the store you want to purchase from. If the store participates in their cash back program, they will be listed with the percentage you receive in cash back next to the name. Simply select the store and the Cashbaq website will pull up any offers the store has. You can click on the link for any of these offers you wish to use or you can just click the link directly to the store. Then just shop as usual.

As long as you start your shopping trip at the Cashbaq website, your purchase will be automatically tracked and put into your account.

Once you accrue $10 or more in cash back from purchases, you will be eligible to get your money via check or paypal. This site is completely legitimate and I've never had a problem getting my money back through them.

Using a site like this is just another great way to save even more money while shopping online!

Panera Bread Company Coupon

Go here to make a date with your loved one (husband, wife, kids, whoever you love and want to meet) and Panera Bread Company will send you a buy one get one free "You Pick Two" combo coupon.

The only tricky part is that you have to pick a date and time when sending the invite and the coupon is only good the date you pick after 4 pm. Make sure to pick a date that works for both of you to take advantage of this offer. This offer is available through 2/28.

I personally love Panera and would eat there weekly if allowed. I cannot get enough of the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad or Turkey Artichoke Panini!

To buy or not to buy?

Coupons that is! The easiest way to get coupons is to get a subscription to the newspaper. It really only takes the effort to set up the delivery and then they show up at your door week after week without much effort on your part.

The question has been asked, "how do you get so many copies of coupons?" I get several copies of newspaper inserts every week - I have a subscription to the newspaper and both of my grandmothers happily supply me with their unused coupons and nice people my husband works with send them my way too. (Thanks to all of you!)

But when there is a deal that I really want to stock up on, like the Kraft Shredded Cheese at King Soopers a couple of weeks ago that ended up being about $1/bag or the Mission Tortillas for $.25 a bag, I actually purchase coupons.

"Purchase coupons!" you say. Yep, that is what I do. Coupons say on them that you cannot buy, sell or trade them but you can get around this by saying you are paying for the time and effort the person puts forth to clip, sort and mail them to you.

There are many sources to purchase coupons from, but my main source has been and probably will always be ebay. I've purchased through other coupon clipping sites and they have almost always been more expensive than purchasing from someone on ebay. Just make sure to check their feedback before sending money! Also, make sure to order them as early as possible to get them with enough time to receive them before your sale is over. It is no fun to get coupons a day after the sale you wanted to use them on just ended. I only purchase coupons for sale with the option to 'Buy it Now' instead of having to wait for the auction to end, to ensure I receive them as quickly as possible.

Another question I've been asked is "why spend money on coupons just to save some money?" I'll give you an example. I bought 20 $.75/1 Mission Tortilla coupons on ebay for $1.50 shipped. We eat tortillas all the time in our house and they freeze great, so I figured that since they are on sale right now for $1.25/pack and with my coupon doubled up to $1, my final cost per pack is $.25, now was an awesome time to stock up. I spent $1.50 for the coupons for the equivalent of $20 of savings, since each coupon will save me $1 each time I buy a pack. These tortillas are usually $2.25 each when not on sale, so I'd spend $45 buying 20 packs at regular price. If I buy 20 packs of tortillas using my coupons, I'll spend $5 on them. Factor in my coupon cost and I'll spend $6.50 for 20 packs of tortillas or $.33/pack with coupon costs figured in. Needless to say, I won't be needing to purchase any more tortillas for a really long time.

What do you think about buying coupons - good idea or a bad one?

Looking for some Wii deals?

Rumor has it that today Amazon is doing some lightning deals on Wii stuff all day today. Go to the page on Amazon here to view the current deal. Check back often because lightning deals on Amazon are only offered for a set amount of time or until the products sell out, which ever comes first. I love shopping with Amazon, they have great customer service, fast shipping and I earn free Amazon gift cards to use toward my purchases by using Swagbucks for my internet searching. Organic BabyLegs as low as $2.95/pair!

UPDATE: It looks like the prices went up to $3.50/pair, a bit more than originally but still a good deal on organic babylegs!

Can I just tell you how crazy I thought the idea of leg warmers for babies were when I first heard about them? I thought it was one of the silliest things I had heard of, until I used them on my kids. I put them under cute dresses and skirts when my daughter was learning to walk and crawl to protect her legs. I also layered them under other clothes to give the kids extra warmth, but still have access for easy diaper changes. I now am in love with them and have more than I will ever need!

Now to where you can get this great deal... Go here.

It is a small business that I have ordered products from several times and always been very happy with the products and services. She also sells Baltic Amber, which I used for helping to alleviate painful teething for my kiddos.

I am so tempted to buy a few more pairs, please let me show some self restraint!!

Shopping Ahead...Part 2 - After Holiday Shopping

Since today is the day after Valentine's Day, I thought it would be a good idea to do round 2 of the "shopping ahead" series that I promised.

A great way to save some money is to shop sales at stores right after the holiday has passed. I always try to shop for next years items during this time. Stores will start drastically discounting holiday merchandise to get rid of it and make room for the new stuff.

Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Michael's and many other stores do this frequently. It is best to get in as soon as you can after the holiday for best selection of items. Usually items are at about 50% off right after the holiday and go into deeper discounts further out, but the selection dwindles.

Stores not only mark decorations, candy and other items that are obviously holiday related, but they also sometimes have items like napkins and tissues that are not necessarily with the holiday stuff, but that have holiday themed prints on them too! If your store has a price scanner, use it - it will be your friend when trying to figure out what is on sale and what isn't.

Just an example of some after the holiday shopping I did last year. I was able to get a $280 pre-lit 8 ft. tall Christmas tree from Target after Christmas for 90% off, I spent $28 for a $280 tree! I also got my kids tons of Halloween costumes to use for dress up play after Halloween for 75 - 90% off. It truly pays to shop ahead during the after holiday clearance events.

If you score any great deals on Valentine's goodies, let us know what you got in the comment section!

Did you miss Part One of the Shopping Ahead series? If so, go here to catch up.

Walgreens - How to "roll" Register Rewards

I have been asked a few times how to "roll" the Register Rewards (RR)s at Walgreens. "Rolling" means using a RR you already have, to purchase a different product and receive another RR. There is one major trick to get this to work correctly and that is to not use the RR from the same manufacturer for the new product. The manufacturer of the product can be found right here on the RR...
(sorry for the bad picture it is the best I could get!)

It is the part that is circled in red in the middle of the coupon, below the Walgreens written in red and above the bar code (that I covered with the other piece of paper).

We already know not to use a RR from the exact item to purchase it again, or the RR won't print. But the tricky part is that some of these manufacturers sell multiple brands and if you use a RR that is from one product to purchase a different product that is sold by the same manufacturer, you may not get your RR.

Let me give you an example. Let's pretend Crest toothpaste is on sale for $3 and you get a $2 RR when you buy it and that Tide is on sale for $10 get a $5 RR. I purchase Crest, which is manufactured by Procter & Gamble (PG) and get the $2 RR. I then go and purchase Tide in another transaction, which is also manufactured by PG and use my $2 RR from the Crest deal, I will not receive the $5 Tide RR. This is because both products are PG products and the system will not generate a new RR when I purchase with the original PG RR.

It is always important to look at the manufacturer/retailer listed on the RR you want to use and make sure it doesn't match the manufacturer/retailer listed on the product you want to buy.

There are always exceptions to this rule, but I try to never use RRs from the same manufacturer when trying to "roll" them. It prevents confusion and frustration on my end.

Many cashiers will tell you that if you use a RR to purchase a product, a new RR won't print and this IS NOT the case! They just don't know the details of the system. Just make sure not to use RRs from the same manufacturer.

I am going to start giving scenarios/ideas on how to "roll" your RRs. Here is my first transaction...I had a $7 RR from the Zicam deal and an $8 RR from the Blink RR deal 2 weeks ago. When using RRs to pay, your total needs to be above the amount they are worth before tax. So when I was trying to decide what to do, because my old RRs were expiring today, I was looking for items that would produce more RRs so I can "roll" them again in the next few weeks.

I purchased:
2 Twizzlers = 2/$3, mmm I love licorice!
2 Hershey's Products = $2/8, chocolate is good too!
2 Crest Pro-Health Mouthwashes = 2/$7
2 Tuf Paper Towels $.50 each, used as fillers to get up to $15 total
Total before coupons = $19

I used:
2 $2/1 Crest Pro-Health Coupons
$7 RR from the Zicam
$8 RR from the Blink Tears
Total coupons used = $19

Total Spent = $1.12 out of pocket (OOP), all of which was tax!

I got all of the goodies listed above and received a $5 RR for purchasing $10 or more of Hershey's products (Twizzlers are included in this) and $2.50 RR for purchasing 2 Crest Pro-Health mouthwashes.

Sometimes when there are money makers on products (when there is a coupon paired with a RR usually) you can actually get product and leave with more in RRs that you walked in with!

Stay tuned as I'll continue posting how I am "rolling" my RRs!

If you have questions, feel free to shoot me an email at thriftymomincolorado@gmail.com or leave a comment and I'll reply back.
