I was wandering around the daily deal sites and stumbled across this super cute deal! The Savvy Source, a great deal site that gives 5% of your purchases back to the preschool of your choice, has a great deal on some super cute kids cookbooks. They have Handstand Kids Italian Cookbook kits, Mexican Cookbook kits and Chinese cookbook kits on a huge discount (usually $25) for only $10 each with $5 shipping. These kits not only come packaged super cute, but also come with kitchen utensils to help with the preparation of the dishes.

After being intrigued by these, I checked out reviews on these books. All 3 of these sets have 5 star ratings on Amazon! It looks like they are great sets to give to your little ones or give as gifts. They were also priced at $28 each on Amazon, so the $15 these will run you through The Savvy Source seems to be a great deal, not to mention the 5% that will go to the preschool of your choice!

Finally, we talked about shopping sales and clearance and this can save you lots of money. I shop after holiday sales to stock up on items for the next year. This year I snagged some full sized Nutcrackers for only $1, down from $20, some PJs for my kiddos for next Christmas for 90% off and several ornaments and decorations. Our family has a tradition of giving the kids new PJs on Christmas eve to wear and by buying them a year ahead of time, I save a significant amount of money. This year I spent $5 on 4 pairs of PJs, if I would have waited to get them before Christmas next year and paid full price for them, I would have spent closer to $50 on them!

I also shop at the end of season clearance for clothing and items for my kids. I always keep my eyes open for winter jacket clearances as these are pretty pricey. This year I snagged a couple of dress jackets for $8 each, down from $27 each and 2 winter snow jackets from Children's Place for only $14 each, after clearance price and 20% off coupon. If you shop at certain stores regularly, it pays to sign up for their loyalty club, as this is how I got the additional 20% off of my purchase coupon. These jackets retail for $70 each - so I saved a ton of money and was still able to get my kids nice warm jackets for next winter. I also do this for clothing for my kids. Now that retailers are getting out their spring merchandise, they are marking down their winter clothing and shopping ahead for their clothes for next year can save you tons of money!

Tom's of Maine Toothpaste and Deodorant? only $1 each!

This week (through Tuesday) Albertson's has Tom's of Maine toothpaste on sale for $3. There are $2/1 coupons available at the store to get these for only $1 per tube. My store had the coupons at the register and just scanned them when I checked out. Other stores are reported to have the tearpads of coupons out for you to grab yourself.

They had both kids and adult versions on sale, these are usually $3.99 at Albertsons. This is about the lowest price I've seen on this brand of toothpaste, so if you use this - stock up!! I heard that the deodorant is also on sale for $3, but forgot to look when I was there. If it is, you can use the same coupon to get it for only $1 each too!

While you are there check out their 3 lb. bag of oranges for only $1 and their frozen Tilapia (1 lb. bag) for buy 1 get 2 free this week - making it $2.66/lb. when you buy 3 packages. If they are out of either of these items just ask for a raincheck and pick it up on your next trip there.

Happy New Year!!! We thought we'd kick this year off with a segment that discussed how to save money on your grocery bill. It's a bit of a novel, so let's get started...

I think grocery budgets are an area that most people would like to see cuts in their spending. With a little bit of learning and some planning, you can drastically slash your grocery budget. This first step to starting to save money on groceries is to track what your family eats. Doing this serves a few purposes, you will know what how much of items you eat and also may point out just at a glance a few areas you could instantly save money on. Beverages are an area that many families tend to spend tons of money on without even thinking about it. In our home we offer the kids milk or water as their regular choices. Juice is a special treat for any of us. We always have tea on hand for the adults but I spend very little of our grocery budget on drinks.

I suggest tracking your meals for a couple of weeks to see what you really are eating and drinking. Once you've done this, you now have a way to create a list of food items your family regularly eats. Do you eat chicken 3 times a week? Are canned tomatoes a staple used in a bunch of your meals? Sometimes we don't even realize what we are using so regularly without looking at it. Once you have this list, you can now use the weekly store sales flyers to begin meal planning and stocking up on items that are on sale. Did you know that Wal-Mart and Target have price matching policies. This is a great way to get all the great deals each week without having to run from store to store. Just bring in the sale flyers with you and let the clerk know that you have some price matching to do. I usually put all the items that I am not price matching at the front of my order and separate the ones I need to price match so that it is easy for the cashier and for me. I have each ad ready to go to show the cashier what the price should be. Price matching saves lots of money and time and energy running from store to store.

Meal planning is exactly how it sounds - make a plan of meals. This will give you an opportunity to buy items that are on sale and use them to make meals instead of deciding what you want to eat and paying full price for the items. Using what is on sale to make your meal plan is a HUGE step to saving a bunch on money on your groceries. My family eats lots of boneless, skinless chicken and I never pay more than $1.99/lb. for them because I buy them when they are on sale. I buy them in large quanities and take them home and divide them and freeze them so that I always have some on hand. This saves me from running out and having to pay $4 or more per pound for the same product. Also, be flexible with meal planning until you figure out what works for your family. I initially started out with a plan saying that on Monday we would have X and Tuesday we would have Y. Well it would be Monday and X didn't sound good to me at all and I'd forget my whole plan. Now I plan 6 dinners per week but don't assign them to a day, I just look at my list in the morning and try to decide what would be tasty for dinner that night.

Did you know that store sales run on about a 6-8 week rotation? This is where the tracking of your meals also comes in handy. If you know your family eats chicken 3 times per week and the sales come around about every 6 weeks, you should stock up on enough chicken for about 18 meals or so when you see that price at rock bottom! Stocking up on items at rock bottom prices and starting a "stockpile" of goods is a great way to save money - as long as you are stocking up on items you will actually use! Having a stockpile means that when you meal plan, you probably won't need to purchase everything the recipes require to make your meals.

The next step to saving money on your grocery bill is to use coupons when they are available for items you already use. Don't use coupons to buy items you don't use unless they are free or very inexepensive and you plan to donate them. To save the most money, pair coupons with sales to get items for pennies on the dollar. If you are shopping at a store that offers store coupons, you can "stack" store coupons and manufacturer coupons to save even more money.

Bigger doesn't always mean less expensive. Check unit pricing on the items you are buying, especially if using coupons. You usually get more bang for your buck if your purchase smaller items when using coupons. Also, try not to be too brand loyal. In my house there are only a select few items that I am brand loyal to, like ketchup. Otherwise, if I need pasta sauce and usually buy Prego, but Barilla is cheaper that week - then Barilla it is for us.

Planning and being organized is what will you the most money on your grocery budget. Minimizing trips to the store, as these trips for one item usually ending up with more than just that item in your arms. Follow these steps and stick to your shopping list and you will see drastic decreases in your grocery bill. When I intially started shopping like this and couponing, I cut my grocery bill in the area of 60% compared to what I was spending before.

There have recently been several other hanuted house deals on these sites, so keep watch on these sites and you could save a bunch of money while being scared silly!

The "i like book"...

I had never heard of this book until this deal came across my email. Right now through Weekly Plus (a daily deal site) they are offering up an "i like book" for only $12 which includes shipping, these regularly retail for around $25.

Never heard of these books? What they are is a journal of sorts to write down what you like about your partner or kids. I was so excited when I checked into these books and saw what they are all about that I ordered one for each of us in our family. What a great way to tell everyone what you like about them and make great memories. I can't wait to get ours and get started on our "i like" journey!!

Today Groupon has a great deal to Elvis Cinemas! You can buy packages for two or four people that include movie tickets, drinks and popcorn. For two people it is $10 for two admissions, two medium drinks and two medium popcorns - up to a $21 value. For four people it is $18 and includes four admissions, two kiddie combos, two medium drinks and one large popcorn - up to a $36.50 value!

These theaters are definitely older and not as high tech as many of the super theaters, but we went a couple of times this summer and we really enjoyed it.

This morning we discussed school supplies and where and how to save money on them. As all parents know school supplies can end up costing a nice chunk of change. I wanted to compare prices at two major retailers, so I took a school supply list I found for a second grade class and also a seventh grade class and price compared the two at Walmart and Target.

The second grade list had 15 different items on it and the total at Target for those items was $22.15 and the total at Walmart was $21.82. The two stores were so close in price that I was surprised. Many of the items that almost all school kids need (glue sticks, markers, paper, and crayons) were the exact same price at both of the stores.

Now when it came to the seventh grade list of items, there was a bit more of a price difference. The seventh grade list had 15 different items on it too and the total at Target was $47.16 and Walmart came in at $35.80. Part of the bigger price difference was the selection of items available. My list asked for a ream of copy paper and Target only had a couple of options the least expensive being $4.29, while Walmart had a larger selection and the cost on the least expensive paper was $2.97. The same was true for calculators, on the list was a TI-30X calculator. Target only had a fancier version in stock and it was $13.29 while Walmart had the regular TI-30X and it was priced at $8.44.

Neither the second grade or seventh grade totals include backpacks, lunchboxes or anything besides what was listed on the supply list. Backpacks and lunchbox prices vary greatly from store to store. Targets least expensive backpacks started at $16 while Walmart had ones starting at $10. Lunchboxes at Target started at $5, while at Walmart they started at $3.48.

If you still have some time and can break your shopping trips up over the next few weeks, then you can take advantage of the great sales they have each week. This week crayons may be on sale and if you wait to pick up the markers until next week when they are on sale, you can save some money!

There were several items on the lists that regularly have coupons that you can use to save money. Items like Clorox wipes, Kleenex and even pens have recently had coupons available that could save you even more money than just picking them up on sale.

One of the biggest things you can do to save money on school supplies is price match. Both Target and Walmart have price matching policies where they will match competitors printed ads. The item has to be an identical item, meaning that if Office Max has their Office Max brand of paper on sale, you cannot price match since Walmart and Target won't carry the Office Max brand. If Office Max has Crayola Crayons on sale for $.25 a pack, you just need to bring the sale flyer with you to Target or Walmart and they will price match it for you! It is super easy to price match and is a great way to maximize the sales at each store, without having to run around to each store to get one great deal at each one!

I believe this will run through early September, so you've got plenty of time to get your caffeine fix!

Are you a college student or know someone who is? If so, then Amazon has got a great deal for you. Amazon is offering college students a completely free amazon prime membership (a $79 value). You will need to have a valid .edu email address and specify college and major when signing up. Perks of this membership include free 2 day shipping and no minimum purchase requirements. Toys R Us has selected Crayola crayons, markers and paper on sale through Saturday buy one, get two free. This includes the large 8 count washable markers for $3.99 for 3 packs after the sale, which is equal to $1.33 per package - a great deal for the washable markers. The regular Crayola markers regularly go on sale for about $1 per pack, but the washable ones are usually $2+ per pack, so this is a great deal. This sale also includes the 96 sheet packs of Crayola construction paper priced at $2.49. When you buy one at $2.49 and get 2 other packs free, this makes the final cost per pack only $.83 each, less than $.01 per sheet!

Target and other major retailers are starting their summer clearances. They start marking down summer items to sell them to make room for back to school and other items. This is a great time to stock on summer items like picnic gear, outdoor dining furniture, toys for water play and other fun summer items.

You can also keep your eyes open for summer clothing clearances where you can stock up on clothing for next summer at rock bottom prices. This is how I am able to dress my kids for less than I would spend shopping at thrift stores and get brand new clothes for them. I call it "shopping ahead" and it means buying items at the end of a season for the next year. I stock up on clothes for my kids each time these clearances roll around in the next size up and then have wardrobes for my kids at a fraction of the regular retail prices. Seventh Generation Diapers Review & Giveaway!

Woo hoo - don't you just love giveaways, I know I do! Let's start with my review first and then we'll get on to the giveaway.

Those of you that know me personally know that I am a cloth diapering momma. I love cloth diapers and use them as much as I can, but when we are traveling or when cloth diapers aren't the best option for my family, I do use disposable diapers. I recently used then new and improved Seventh Generation Free & Clear diapers on our new little one and was very happy with them. I LOVE that they are free of harsh chemicals (like cholorine processing, fragrances and latex) - my little ones have very sensitive skin and I've had problems in the past with disposable diapers irritating their skin. No such problems with these diapers!

They fit my kiddo well and contained all the messes, something I cannot say about many of the other disposable diapers I have previously tried! My babies tend to have explosions when they poop and these diapers held it all in, no extra laundry for me to do from diaper explosions was great.

I am very impressed with the performance of these diapers and even more impressed with what they didn't have - chemicals and all the other icky stuff that most of the disposable diapers have in them.

I also use these great sales as a way to donate supplies for students in need and not spend an arm and a leg but still be able to help kids in need out.

Finally, K-Mart has an additional 50% off clearance toys and additional 40% off clearance clothing for men, women and kids. I love to shop these toy sales and stock up my gift stash so that we have gifts on hand for all of those birthday parties that seem to creep up on us unexpectedly. I also like to shop ahead for the holidays and birthdays of my kids when these sales come around.

Finally, we talked about shopping at bakery outlets to save money on bakery items. I shop at a Oroweat outlet which carries fresh products at a discount as well as day old and older products at even larger discounts. The Oroweat outlets also carry Entenmann's, Thomas, Bimbo, Boboli products as well as many other brands to choose from. The Oroweat outlets have punch cards where you earn punches for spending money and once you fill it you get FREE products. There are certain days throughout the week where you can earn double punches to fill your card up even faster. They also allow you to pick a FREE item once you spend a certain amount. Check with your local store as each store has different days and policies. Find your closest Oroweat/Bimbo outlet here. I know that Wonder/Hostess also has some bakery outlets around town, but I've never shopped there before.

Walgreens is a great place to shop for toiletries and health and beauty products. They have a program called register rewards that are coupons that are printed out at the cash register that are as good as cash on your next purchase. Using these coupons to purchase products is a great way to get products for free or little out of pocket. The deals that I showed during the segment are all available at Walgreens this week, some require coupons from the newspaper and some don't. Also, tons of the "seasonal" items really aren't seasonally themed, like some of the toys. I always look for items that are being clearanced but that are not necessarily holiday themed that I can use either next year during the holiday or for presents throughout the year. Shopping these after holiday clearances are a great way to save a TON of money!

This Friday, April 29th, Whole Foods is having a one day sale on organic strawberries for only $1.99/lb. I think this may be the one of the best prices I've seen on organic strawberries. I know where I'll be stopping by to stock up on organic strawberries on Friday! I plan to purchase a bunch and freeze some of them for smoothies and later use.

What is your favorite thing to do with strawberries? Mine is to eat them with cream - simple yet so yummy. I'm hungry just thinking about it!

EDIT: This coupon has been changed since I originally posted it from a coupon good at participating locations to only include a couple of locations in Virginia. I'm sorry about this as this deal is no longer good here in Colorado! Qdoba has a buy one, get one free coupon good through May 5th for any naked burrito, naked taco salad, or naked mango salad. Naked refers to the burrito being served in a bowl instead of a tortilla and the taco salads just don't have the crispy shell.

Banfield Pet Hospitals which are located in many Petsmarts are offering FREE initial pet exams to new clients. You need to head over to their website and fill out a quick form to get access to a printable coupon for this.

If you shop online at all, then you need to be using cashback sites like Shop at Home and Ebates. They both work with hundreds of online retailers and give you a percentage back on your purchase when you shop through them. You actually receive a check once you hit the minimum cashback amount, not just a credit to somewhere. You simply create an account with these sites and then log into your account. Then, you search for the store you want to shop at and use the link from the cashback site to get to the online store. Once you make a purchase, your cashback account will show your purchase and you will have credit in your account! These sites are a great way to save even more money while shopping online! Both of these sites are completely legitimate, I've received cashback checks from both of them with no problems! Target has some great prices on DVDs/Blu-rays this week through Saturday. You can get How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever After Blu-ray combo packs for $12.99 or DVDs for $6.99 with no coupon needed. There are other great deals on lots of DVDs and Blu-rays at Target as well. It looks like Amazon may be price matching some of these deals if you would rather shop online. I'm putting some of these in my kiddos easter baskets, they are going to be so excited!
